Hi, I'm Justin.

I run Backroom OC out of Westminster. Before this, I spent fifteen years doing the same kind of work for UHNW households, family offices, and a couple of regulated operators. The job is the same in every room: build the system that makes the day boring, and the books unimpeachable.

This page is here because you asked, or were about to ask, who is doing the work. Here's the answer.

Three rooms, one job

The work has looked different in each chapter. The work has not been different.

2004 to 2014

Chief of staff, UHNW principals

Ten years in rooms with no margin for error. I ran the calendars, the vendors, the household operations, and the travel for principals in aerospace and defense, entertainment, and family offices. Twelve-plus concurrent vendors, zero audit errors, and a decade of advance work for Tony Robbins and Mark Victor Hansen productions. The lesson that has shaped every engagement since: build the system first. The calendar takes care of itself.

2014 to 2025

Operations and product, at scale

Operations at T-Mobile, regulatory compliance for a CITES-permitted business in Fountain Valley, regional director of operations for a global IT consultancy, and a 90-day sole-PM ship of an iOS app (a multi-LLM image pipeline that categorized five thousand items). The connective tissue across all of it: governance models, vendor consolidation, audit-clean books, and the boring automation that makes both sides of a service business stop arguing.

2020 to now

Backroom OC, the small-business practice

The same muscle, aimed at a different audience. Most of my principal-level work was behind closed doors. Backroom OC is the public side: a small, accessible practice for businesses in Orange County that need the same kind of work, but at a price a plumber or a salon owner can actually pay. A real website for $499. Never Miss a Lead, so you hear about a new lead in seconds and the customer hears back right away. And custom automations that wire your existing tools together.

Why I do both

A lot of people in my line of work pick a side. You are either a fractional chief of staff to wealthy principals, or you are a small-business web guy. I am both, and the same muscle is the reason I can be both.

The principal's calendar is a stress test of every other system. The plumber's scheduling is the same test, in a different shape. A small business website is the same exercise as a household systems audit. A multi-LLM pipeline is the same exercise as a family-office vendor consolidation. Different scale, different vocabulary, same job: build the system that makes the day boring, and the books unimpeachable.

Backroom OC is the public practice. The principal-level work continues, but it doesn't show up here. The link below takes you there.
